Motorcycle Clubs are just that, Clubs. It just depends on what a persons interest is with regards to what a Motorcycle Club is and what they want to get out of it. In most cases it is a group of both guys and gales that have a keen interest in a particular marquee. I belong to several groups both here in North America and overseas in particular in the UK. My soul interest is from a technical standpoint, and not so much from a social aspect. The reason is very simple, my family, my corporate world and my hobby, there is little room for clubs, other than newsletters, odd phone call, emails and going to Vintage Motorcycle functions such as swap meets and shows.
I have listed below the ones that I belong to along with the links to that particular clubs site. Enjoy!
Vintage Motorcycle Clubs
When I first became involved in Vintage Motorcycle, in particular, British Iron I was a member of the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group, NORAL the Edmonton Chapter. Shortly after that a group of guys gathered in Calgary with the idea of forming a Brit Iron Club. The first two meetings the agenda was discussing how what why and where this was to come together. I suggested and asked a senior NORAL Member to speak to the group about being part of the CVMG and the Rocky Mountain Section was formed. An early member, Steve Holsworth, designed the logo. Sadly a number of the original members of this group are no longer members, and an effort is underway to bring them home and back into the fold.....
T.I.O.C is a USA based club out of Holliston, Massachusetts that has several good technical newsletters a year. Guys who are good in the shop and can articulate the thought process to the keyboard write many of these articles. They also every year put together an excellent rally in which I have yet to attend.
The Norton Owners Club is based out of the UK. Although I have never attended any meetings, the bi-monthly newsletter is on of the best there is. There are enough technical items and contact references to keep most people happy who own Norton's with particular emphasis towards the Commando's.
This club is "Free" and it's based around the new breed of Hinckley Motorcycles. As you may or may not be aware I ride a 2001 Triumph Trophy 1200 cc. She is affectionately called, "Trophy Bird". Click on the Triumph rat and it will take you to the Triumph Rat Club site and if you own a modern Triumph, file in the information but remember you need a VIN # to complete the membership application. You get a super quarterly Triumph Magazines, yearly pin and badge and become part of your local area's Rat pack as we are called. In Western Canada, we have a Rat Raid the third weekend of July in Nelson, BC. If you didn't know this, this particular area of the West Kootenay's of BC is some of the most fantastic roads and scenery on the world.
This particular Norton Club is based in the USA and is an excellent club to belong to as they two have quarterly magazines that are filled with a number of interesting articles along with excellent technical items. Bridgebrace is a memobila store that is full of Norton related parfenila and has the much sot after technical digest for the Norton Commando’s. This publication I believe is on its second or third publication. Just checked this web site and is a must to see!
